Google ranks your Instagram — Search Console can prove which social posts earn Search clicks

Google Will Rank Your Instagram. Search Console Is About to Prove It

SEO

Utah owners treat Instagram like a billboard and Google like a separate religion.

Likes live in one app. Rankings live in Search Console. The intern posts Reels. The agency (or the cousin) “does SEO.” Nobody can prove whether a South Jordan HVAC clip actually showed up when someone typed the job.

That split just got a receipt.

On July 7, 2026, Google Search Central announced platform properties in Search Console: a new property type for Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube. You connect the account. You get clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position for those posts inside Google Search (and Discover or News if they appear there). Semrush amplified it on September 1. The feature is still rolling out gradually. If you do not see “Add property” for a platform yet, you are not broken. You are in the queue.

Leeper Digital does not sell ads. We sell organic systems. This is one of them.

What Google actually shipped (not the rumor)

Moshe Samet, product manager lead for Search Console, put it in plain English: creators use channels beyond their own websites, and Google wants a consolidated view of how that content gets discovered on Search. Even people without a website can use it.

Supported platforms, from Google’s help doc:

  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • X
  • YouTube

You add each account as its own property. Instagram is not “bundled” with TikTok. Two HVAC pages on Instagram means two properties.

Reports:

  1. Performance — clicks, impressions, average CTR, average search position. Filter by post. Filter by query. Export if you live in a spreadsheet.
  2. Insights — trends, top-performing content, how people discover the account on Google. Default window: 28 days.
  3. Achievements — milestones, such as a new threshold for total clicks from Search in the last 28 days. Fine. Do not confuse a badge with a strategy.

Google is explicit about what this is not.

Search metrics versus native likes — Search Console is not a hearts report

Platform properties show how your content performs on Google Search. They do not show how many times the video played inside TikTok. Likes, comments, and For You distribution stay on the native app. If your “social report” is still a screenshot of hearts, you are measuring the wrong surface.

Empty charts after you connect are normal. Google says it takes a few days to collect and process metrics. New properties only show data from the day collection started. Do not panic on day two. Do not invent a backfill Google did not promise.

Instagram stories that appear in Search count as impressions; a click is a click. Videos that play in Google’s own viewer still count as a Search Console click. That is Google’s example, not ours.

Why this matters in Salt Lake City

Most shops from Draper to Herriman already post. They just post for the algorithm they can see.

Google has been showing social and video results for years. You just could not prove which clip earned the search impression. Native analytics said “engagement.” Search Console said “website.” The job still went to whoever showed up with a real answer.

This report closes that gap for the accounts you verify.

It does not replace a money page that is not commodity content. If the service URL is still “HVAC services throughout the Wasatch Front,” a viral Reel will not save you. Fix the page. Then let Search Console tell you which posts Google is already using as receipts.

It also does not replace Maps, organic, and AI. Platform properties are a third camera on the same job: what Google shows when the query is you, your work, or your city.

And it does not mean “post more.” Growing on social without ads is still the posting system. This is the scoreboard for whether Google noticed.

Why this matters in the Deaf community

Deaf entrepreneurs already live on video. ASL is the pitch, the FAQ, and the trust signal. Hearing owners write a service page. Deaf owners often sign the answer and post it to Instagram or YouTube because that is how their customers actually buy.

Until now, that work sat outside Search Console. You could prove a Reel got likes. You could not prove Google showed it when someone searched the job. Platform properties change that for Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube accounts you verify.

That is not a diversity badge. It is distribution.

Google’s own announcement says creators without a traditional website can use platform properties. Plenty of Deaf-led shops are website-light and video-heavy. Connecting YouTube and Instagram means the ASL clip is measurable Search inventory, not a side channel the agency ignores.

Captions and on-screen text still help. Hearing searchers find you. Deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers stay with you. Treat captions as packaging for the same first-person content, not as a compliance checkbox.

Leeper Digital exists because Dominate is ASL-first and Deaf-led. Zoom or ASL is always fine. If your growth system cannot measure the content your community actually makes, it is not a growth system. It is a hearing-world report with your logo on it.

What to do this week (if the button is there)

Add a platform property in Search Console for Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube
  1. Open Search Console. Property selector. Add property. Pick Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube. Authorize. Repeat per account.
  2. Wait a few days. Empty is not failure.
  3. When numbers exist, export Performance. Sort by impressions, then clicks. The posts Google is already showing are your non-commodity proof. The posts with likes and zero Search impressions are entertainment.
  4. Pair the winners with the service page they should support. One job, one market, one URL. A West Jordan emergency AC Reel that cannot land on a West Jordan page is a leak.
  5. If the platform option is missing, check again in a week. Google said gradual. Do not pay a tool to screenshot a report you cannot open yet.

What we will not do

We will not quote prices here. We will not promise your Reel hits the map pack. We will not sell ads against a Search Console report. We will not pretend Semrush invented this on September 1. Google shipped it in July. The work is connecting the accounts and using the queries.

If you cannot sit with a few weeks of data, this is not your lever. SEO still has two clocks.

Next step

Name, business, city or market, which platforms you actually post on, and whether you prefer email, Zoom, or ASL.
